         Articles are the three words, A, An, and The. The rules for using articles in English are different than in Spanish.

A- A goes before words that begin with consonants: A dog, a cat, a man.

AN- An goes before words that begin with vowels: An apple, an orange, an eagle, an ugly picture, an inch.

The- The only goes before things when there is only one of them. For example in the sentence: The apple is ripe. There is only one apple, so we use the. If we are talking about apples in general, we say: Apples are ripe.
