622-8859?Say and tell can sometimes be confused. Say means decir, and tell means contar. Say goes before a personal object pronoun, and tell goes before a noun:
say + something tell + someone
Say goes before these words:
add, confesion, remark, announcement, agreement, statement, complaint,
claim, mention, pledge, declaration, reply, admit, deny, swear, anser, explain
Example: He said his confesion to the preist.
Tell goes before these words:
convince, inform, assure, promise, teach, notify, remind, warn, secret, a story, to do something
Example: He told me a secret.
* Some words that go with tell don't have to have a personal object pronoun after
it, for example: ...a story, ...the truth, ...a lie.
* It is possible to use say with a personal object pronoun, in which case you use to; but this is only used when you are trying to stress a point, for example: I said to him.
1) I told him I wanted to buy his car.
2) She said she agreed with me.
3) The police told me I would have to pay the ticket.
4) I said I didn't want to go to Vina de Mar.
5) He told her he was in love with another woman.
6) My grandmother used to tell a story about a green goblin.
7) John said he was hungry.
